This morning, I woke up, went about my routine, finally logged on, and checked my emails. Finding a story that looked promising, I proceeded to read it. It was pretty good, kind of raw, but okay. Right up until the second I came upon the WORD.

Now, my idea of how the world of smut works is this~

Erotica~The way a woman thinks.

Porn~The way a man thinks.

I love to read erotica. I cannot stand porn. And the fastest way to turn me off a story is to come across the word CUM. It's worse than crotch. It's worse than the P-word. I'll click off a story containing it faster than Speedy Gonzolas can say "Arriba!"

And I've recently seen alot of fics like that.

I'm wondering, is it just me? Am I too picky? Am I the only one who *hates* that word?

*sighs*

No, you're far from the only one, judging by my own experience and discussions I've had before. I do think, though, that it's more erotic for some, because it is more pornish and raw. There are some women who prefer the vocabulary of standard porn over other terms. I'm with you, though. *g*

Glad to see someone does! *g* I must confess, I've been a little bewildered ever since I wrote "Perverse". I intended to turn the stomach of the reader. It made me sick writing it. It was 120 words of a cruel, sadistic rape.

You wouldn't believe the feedback I've gotten saying it's hot. Sexy. And are you going to write more?

Well, color me confused. Not the reaction I was expecting, to say the least.

What's the English language cumming to?

Oh, good girl! About time we wiped out that dreadful spelling. I don't mind it *quite* so much as a noun, in a lighthearted context, but as a verb....yeuch!

Oh my gawd--I have got into enORMous arguments with fellow writers over this! And you're right--the guys use The Word all the time and think it's totally okay, but the female writers are mostly icked out by it. The argument I always made was that there are graceful words and there are brutish words. That Word is the lowest of the low.

So I feel your squick and second it wholeheartedly.

Although few things, in my book, are worse than "crotch" and the P-word. Other than possibly using the word "manhood" to describe a penis. lolol

I like your analogy between graceful and brutish. That about sums it up.

I have to restrain myself from sending off nasty feedback every time. But, it's not my vision, it's theirs. *sighs*
